What makes Flex Driving Academy the best driving school in South West London? +
We combine experienced, DVSA-approved instructors with flexible scheduling, modern vehicles and a strong track record of first-time passes. Students consistently highlight how patient and clear our instructors are, especially with nervous learners. We also offer both manual and automatic lessons.
How do I choose the right driving instructor? +
Look for a DVSA-approved instructor (they display a green badge), check recent reviews, and confirm they know your local test centre's routes. Booking a single assessment lesson first is a great way to see if their teaching style suits you.
Are your instructors DVSA approved? +
Yes. All our instructors are fully qualified and DVSA-approved, meeting national standards for safety and teaching quality.
Do you have female driving instructors available? +
Yes, female instructors are available on request. Let us know your preference when you book and we'll match you accordingly.
Which areas of South West London do you cover? +
We cover Wallington, Wimbledon, Tooting, Morden, Sutton, Croydon and the surrounding South West London area, plus locations outside the M25 at a slightly adjusted rate.
How much do driving lessons cost? +
Standard lessons are £40 per hour inside the M25 and £42.50 per hour outside the M25, with a 2-hour minimum booking. Your first 6 hours are discounted to £35 per hour.
What's the difference between Fast Pass, Fast Track and Fast Forward? +
Fast Pass is a 24-hour course to get you test-ready quickly. Fast Track is a flexible intensive option combining manual and automatic teaching. Fast Forward is our longest intensive course at 36 hours, ideal for complete beginners compressing months of learning into a shorter timeframe.
What's included in Pass Plus and is it worth it? +
Pass Plus is a 6-hour course covering motorway, night and all-weather driving for newly qualified drivers. It's worth considering for extra confidence beyond test standard, and can lead to insurance discounts with some providers.
Should I learn in an automatic or manual car? +
It depends on your goals. Automatic removes the clutch and gears, which many find less stressful and faster to learn. Manual gives you a licence to drive any car. If you're unsure, we can talk it through in your first lesson.
Does an automatic licence let me drive a manual car later? +
No. If you pass in an automatic car, your licence only permits automatic vehicles. To drive manual, you'd need to pass a separate manual test.
How many lessons will I need before I'm test-ready? +
This varies, but most learners need around 30–45 hours of professional lessons, often combined with private practice. Your instructor will give a realistic estimate after your first couple of lessons.
I'm a nervous driver — can you help me build confidence? +
Yes — this is one of the things our instructors are most experienced with. Lessons are paced to your comfort level, and many students mention how much calmer and more confident they felt after starting with us.
Do you offer refresher lessons for drivers who haven't driven in years? +
Yes, our refresher lessons are designed exactly for this — helping licensed drivers rebuild confidence and adjust to current road conditions after time away from driving.
Do you still book my practical driving test for me? +
No, not anymore. Since 12 May 2026, DVSA rules mean only the learner can book, change, swap or cancel their own practical test. What we can do is advise you on when you're genuinely ready, help you choose a sensible test centre, and talk you through the booking process.
How many questions are on the UK theory test and what's the pass mark? +
The multiple-choice section has 50 questions and you need at least 43 correct. You'll also need at least 44 out of 75 on hazard perception. Both sections must be passed together.
What documents do I need on driving test day? +
Bring your provisional driving licence and your theory test pass certificate (or confirmation). Without these, your test may not go ahead.
What's the pass rate at local test centres vs the national average? +
Morden's pass rate sits at around 48.8%, slightly above the UK national average of roughly 48.7%. Pass rates vary by centre, and your own preparation matters far more than the centre's average.
What age can I start driving lessons? +
You can start at 17. If you receive the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), you can start at 16.
Do I need a provisional licence before booking lessons? +
Yes, you must hold a valid provisional licence before lessons on public roads. You can apply on GOV.UK from age 15 years and 9 months, though it only becomes valid at 17 (or 16 under the PIP exception).
Do I need my own car insurance for lessons? +
No. During lessons with our instructors, you're covered under their vehicle's insurance. You only need your own insurance if practising separately in your own car.
Do L-plates need to be on the car during my lesson? +
Yes, L-plates (or D-plates in Wales) must be clearly displayed on the front and back of the vehicle whenever a learner is driving.
